
Lurais is within easy reach of the Loire where almost all of the nobility in France built themselves a chateau during the 17th century, as did the French royal family themselves. Most of these wonderful chateaux are open to the public.
Lurais is in the 'Parc Naturel Regional de la Brenne'. designated such because of its varied and fascinating wildlife and the 'Pays de Trois Vallees', the Creuse, the Anglin and the Gartempe. This is a magnificent landscape of rolling hills and wooded river valleys, farmland and forests, fields, rivers and lakes. In the surrounding countryside are excellent facilities for cycling, canoeing, walking, riding, climbing, fishing and golf. Good fishing in the many rivers and lakes in the area.
